Lamar Homes and City of Raleigh unite for 6th annual back-to-school bookbag drive

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Lamar Homes and the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation are teaming up to host their sixth back-to-school bookbag drive to help students.

According to Lamar Homes Founder David Lamartiniere, the event is personal for him to help kids start the year off on the right foot.

“For me, I was in kindergarten,” Lamartiniere said. “I remember going to school and the first week, I had a grocery bag as a bookbag. I remember looking at everyone else and wondering why I didn’t have a bookbag.

“Here we are 20 to 30 years later and I can help 3,000 kids ensure they have a bookbag and school supplies,” he said.  

The roofing company will have an event in Raleigh on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southgate Park and G.B Myers Recreation Center in Fayetteville from noon to 4 p.m..
