NASHVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Air conditioning outages are affecting schools in Nash County, officials said Wednesday.

Officials with Nash County Public Schools said the maintenance department is working to restore the air conditioning while staff monitor temperatures and conditions inside the affected buildings throughout the day.
Students and staff may use different classrooms or other spaces if necessary while repairs are happening. If the conditions force an early dismissal at a school, families will be notified, according to district officials.
“The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,” district officials said in a statement. “We recognize that the AC issues are a concern, especially during periods of high temperatures. We are committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible while continuing to monitor conditions at each affected school.

“We appreciate the patience, understanding, and partnership of our NCPS families and community as we work through these challenges together,” they continued in their statement.
The district’s announcement comes as heat continues to affect central North Carolina. Nash County is not among the areas under a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service for Thursday, but temperatures are still expected to be high.
