RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — New details have emerged from Pennsylvania police in the arrest of a Raleigh man accused of fatally stabbing a Wake County high school basketball coach last week.

Rickey Harper is charged with first-degree murder after Sheremy Gwentte Dillard was found stabbed to death at his home in Raleigh last Thursday, Aug. 13, just after 12:15 p.m. At the time, Dillard was in a relationship with Harper and living with him at his home, according to the Raleigh Police Department.
According to Raleigh police, Harper was arrested the following day, Aug. 14, in Plymouth Township, Pennsylvania.
The day of Harper’s arrest, the Plymouth Township Police Department said they were contacted by Raleigh police around 2:30 p.m. about him being in their area. Raleigh police provided Plymouth Township a description of Harper’s vehicle, which was found parked at a mall.
Plymouth Township police said they located Harper in the mall parking lot while he was walking towards his vehicle. Harper refused to surrender and kept his right hand in his pocket, encouraging the officers to shoot him.

A standoff in the parking lot ensued, which ended when Harper fled on foot. Harper attempted to get back to his van, but was captured and taken into custody, according to Plymouth Township police.

According to Plymouth Township police, Harper remains in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bond, awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
Dillard was a recovery teacher and girls basketball coach at Felton Grove High School in Apex at the time of her death. She also coached basketball at Hillside High School in Durham and Carrboro High School before joining Felton Grove last year.
“Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to her family and friends,” Felton Grove High School Principal Robert Morrison said in a statement. “Please keep them and all of those that have been impacted by this loss in your hearts.”
