RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Summer storms have moved up the start of Week 1 of the 2026 North Carolina High School Athletic Association football season to Thursday. But with players returning to the field, it means fall is just around the corner.

Due to the threat of bad weather Friday, some of the first games of the new season are being played Thursday instead. CBS 17 Sports will be in Garner Thursday night as the Trojans host the Millbrook Wildcats, last year’s runner up in the 8A state championship. Kick off for that game is 7 p.m.
On Friday, the crew will be out at Cardinal Gibbons as the Crusaders host the Dudley Panthers in the CBS 17 Game of the Week. That game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
