Roasting in central NC before Thursday front brings rain

One more day of hot muggy weather is in the forecast before the cold front brings change to central North Carolina. Thursday will still be hot with highs up to 90° before the cold front arrives late in the day. As the front arrives it will spark rain and a few non-severe thunderstorms which will continue through the night.

As the cold front drifts south Friday, temperatures will be a little cooler with highs only reaching the upper 70s, a few degrees cooler than the normal high of 81°. A few showers are still possible Friday, scattered off and on throughout the day. The cold front is eventually going to lift back north, allowing the muggy air and warm temperatures to push back in for the holiday weekend. This means Memorial Day Weekend will be warm and muggy with scattered chances for rain each day.

Our ridge of high pressure at the surface and in the middle levels of the atmosphere will move back west over North Carolina, warming temperatures back above normal in the middle and upper 80s, but where the ridge sets up could have an impact on how rainy, or not rainy, we could be through the weekend and next week.

A shift west will keep rain chances more scattered, while a shift east could mean more deep moisture wraps in around the edge of the high, increasing our chances for rain. Right now, the chances look more scattered, which means some rain, but not all day. For now: you’ll be able to get outside this weekend and next week, but have indoor plans ready as a backup!
