Man charged after hours-long standoff on Cedar Creek Road in Fayetteville, police say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The man involved in an hours-long standoff in Fayetteville over the weekend is facing charges, police said Tuesday.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, officers responded on Sunday around 9 a.m. to a domestic incident in the 1000 block of Cedar Creek Road. They learned the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Dustin Lee Ellis, broke into the victim’s home and barricaded himself inside.

The officers were able to evacuate the victims to safety not long after the standoff began, according to Fayetteville police, but Ellis refused to comply with their orders to leave the home.

Police said they used “specialized tactics” to take Ellis safely into custody inside the home at around 8 p.m., 11 hours after the standoff began.

According to Fayetteville police, Ellis was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for evaluation. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday and transported the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Ellis is charged with breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure and injury to personal property, according to Fayetteville police.

Records show Ellis was not given bond. His first appearance in Cumberland County court is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
