SILER CITY, N.C. (WNCN) — A Chatham County woman charged with nearly 100 felonies in elder exploitation and animal cruelty cases has been arrested, court records show.

Maggi Elizabeth Brady, 37, of Siler City is accused of misusing her elderly uncle’s money while she held power of attorney to maintain his finances, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation determined the victim’s cards and accounts were used to make payments to Brady’s accounts. The victim was unaware of his finances, including his banks, investment accounts, and transactions.
After charges were announced against Brady on July 2, according to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a report of animals being abandoned at her home in the 200 block of Herb Beavers Street a week later, on July 9.
Deputies said they believed Brady left her home in June.
Neighbors informed deputies that they released two pigs found in a fenced enclosure without access to food or water. Other animals were found on the property with proper care, including chickens, ducks, rabbits and a dog, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they recovered a dog, a rabbit, two turkeys, and 22 chickens. The rest of the animals were cared for by neighbors after wandering on their property.
According to court records, Brady was taken into custody on July 24.
Court records show Brady is facing 97 felonies in the elder exploitation case:
- 32 counts of exploitation of an elder in a position of trust
- 33 counts of identity theft
- 18 counts of financial card fraud
- 14 counts of obtaining property under false pretense
Brady is charged with two counts of felony cruelty to animals and 25 counts of misdemeanor abandonment of an animal in the abuse case, according to court records.
According to court records, Brady was given a $125,000 secured bond in the elder exploitation case and a $100,000 secured bond in the animal cruelty case. She posted bond the day of her arrest.
Records show Brady made her first appearance in Chatham County court on Aug. 3. She is scheduled to return on Sept. 21.
