Summer has settled back into central North Carolina as higher humidity and increasing sunshine send temperatures climbing once again.

With high pressure anchored off the Southeast coast and an upper-level ridge building in from the southwest, warm, moisture-rich air will remain in place through much of the next week. The result will be a return to the hot and muggy conditions that are typical for early August, with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid-90s.
Rain chances will stay fairly limited on Friday before increasing slightly on Saturday. A tropical wave passing just offshore of the Carolina coast will funnel a little extra moisture into the region, allowing scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon and evening. While not everyone will see rain, a few communities could pick up a quick downpour before the activity fades after sunset.
Once the tropical moisture pulls away, a drier pattern returns for much of next week. That doesn’t mean cooler weather, however. Highs will remain above average in the low to mid-90s, and the persistent humidity will push heat index values close to 100 degrees each afternoon. Aside from an isolated pop-up storm, many locations will stay dry as the typical August heat continues.

SATURDAY will be partly cloudy with isolated to scattered storms. The high will be 90. Winds will be out of the southwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
