Despite missing some key offensive pieces, including Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, Bryce Young and the Panthers’ offense didn’t miss a beat to start the game.

Through the team’s first three drives, Young completed 12 of 13 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. He also showed off his ability to push the ball downfield, connecting with Tetairoa McMillan on a 32-yard deep pass.

While the Panthers’ offense found an early rhythm, the defense did its part to keep Detroit in check.

The Lions managed just two field goals and a punt on their first four drives before finally finding the end zone late in the first half, tying the game at 13.

Then Carolina came out firing again in the second half.

Young found McMillan for a 10-yard touchdown, giving the Panthers the lead back. Chuba Hubbard added to it shortly after, powering up the middle for a two-yard touchdown run.

Detroit continued to struggle to find consistency offensively, punting and turning the ball over on downs before finally finding the end zone again to cut Carolina’s lead to six.

But the Panthers’ defense held firm when it mattered most, preserving the lead and securing the 32-26 win.

The difference-maker all night was the connection between Young and McMillan.

McMillan finished with 14 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns, while Young threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers picked up a primetime win at home.

For Carolina, it was a statement performance under the lights , and another strong showing from its young quarterback and emerging star receiver.
