The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued the alert at 3:54 p.m. for Hoke County, western Cumberland County, southeastern Moore County, southwestern Harnett County and northeastern Scotland County. It is in effect until 4:45 p.m.

Forecasters said a “cluster of severe thunderstorms” stretching from northeast of Pope AAF to near Fort Bragg to Aberdeen was seen on the radar moving south at 10 miles per hour. The main hazard expected with these storms is 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts.
