Thankfully, it has been a cooler start to this week. But 90s are back in the forecast in the coming days.
Our next afternoon of 90 degrees or above will be the 70th of the year for Raleigh. We currently sit in the top 10 for days in the 90s, second for days of 95 degrees or hotter with 37, and fifth for the number of days with 100-degree heat, having done that eight times in 2026.

But how long can this level of heat stick around into the fall season?
Unfortunately, as long as another month.
Last year, our final afternoon of 90 degrees or above came on September 25. But the latest on record is October 10, happening in 2017 and 1939.
While the calendar shows the official start of fall is now exactly 14 days away, ‘Mother Nature’ might have a mild taste of summer lingering through at least the next couple of weeks.
