Join the ride to honor Mitch: 2nd annual ‘Ride the Tide’ event supports Stop Soldier Suicide

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WNCN) — The second annual “Ride the Tide” event will take place Saturday, Sept. 19 at Oak Island.

The event honors the life of Mitchell “Mitch” Lasley, who enlisted as a Marine in high school in 2020.

At just 17, Mitch tragically died by suicide. His parents, Shanna and Neil, are now dedicated to making a difference.

This community cycling event invites riders of all levels to enjoy a scenic tour of Oak Island while supporting Stop Soldier Suicide.

“Mitch’s grandfathers are veterans and it seemed like a natural fit,” said Mitch’s mother, Shanna Lasley. “We were looking for a place to make a difference and bring hope that others don’t have to go through this journey we are faced with.”

Whether you choose the 10-mile family ride or a challenging 30-mile loop, your participation helps ensure that others don’t have to face the same loss.
