ERWIN, N.C. (WNCN) — Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats announced a possibly armed and dangerous man wanted for kidnapping was taken into custody Sunday.

Deputies were looking for 38-year-old Daniel Francis Gear after he was accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old girl earlier Sunday. Investigators say the victim managed to escape and was found physically okay.

The incident sparked an hours-long manhunt for Gear after law enforcement found the man’s pickup truck. The sheriff’s office pushed out an alert, urging neighbors not to approach Gear, but to call 911 because he was potentially armed and dangerous.

Gear faces first-degree kidnapping and assault on a female charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
Court records show Gear was not given bond. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Harnett County court on Tuesday morning.
