Man arrested on murder charge in deadly southwest Raleigh stabbing, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — One man is dead and another is charged with murder after a stabbing in southwest Raleigh Friday night, police said.

The incident was reported just after 9:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Crab Orchard Drive at apartments off Avent Ferry Road, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release.

Officers said preliminary investigation revealed that two men “were involved in an altercation” before the stabbing just east of Lake Johnson.

The victim, later identified as Matthew Bulloch, 36, suffered life-threatening injuries, according to officers. Bulloch was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, the news release said.

A suspect was detained about a half mile from the crime scene in the 1300 block of Lake Dam Road, according to arrest records.

Saturday morning, police said David B. Hoyle, 33, was arrested on a first-degree murder charge. Hoyle lives a few blocks from the crime scene in a condominium development in the 1400 block of Collegiate Circle, arrest records indicate.

“The relationship between the two males is unknown,” officers said. “This is an ongoing investigation.”

Hoyle is being held without bond in the Wake County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday afternoon in Wake County District Court.
