FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A man died after he was shot in a neighborhood north of Fayetteville early Saturday morning, Cumberland County deputies said.

The incident was reported around 4:40 a.m. in the 6000 block of Marquette Street, in a neighborhood off Andrews Road and just east of McArthur Road, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The wounded man was taken from the Woodbridge area neighborhood to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died, the news release said.
A suspect was taken into custody and deputies said the shooting was “not a random incident.”
The name of the slain man was not released Saturday morning and will not be made public until his next of kin is contacted, the release said.

Deputies said that despite the shooting, there “appears to be no threat to the public.”

The case is still under investigation by homicide detectives with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said more information would be released when it becomes available.
