PITTBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — The man charged in a boat crash that killed a 10-year-old girl last summer pleaded guilty in Chatham County court Monday morning.

A disposition hearing was held in Chatham County County Superior Court on Monday for Quinten Gregory Kight, the driver of the boat that ran into a group of swimmers on Harris Lake last August.
The crash killed 10-year-old Brooklyn Mae Carroll, a fifth grade student at West Lake Elementary School in Apex. Jennifer Stehle, a friend of Brooklyn’s mother, also lost her leg from the crash.

Boater pleads guilty in deadly Harris Lake crash
During the hearing, Kight pleaded guilty to the following charges against him:
- Second-degree murder
- Death by impaired boating
- Driving while impaired on a motor boat
- Operating a boat in a reckless manner
- Serious injury by impaired boating
Kight, 41, faces a maximum sentence of 62 years and three months.
Annemarie Flanigan, the owner of the boat and Kight’s girlfriend, was also charged with second-degree murder in the crash. The case against her remains active as of Monday, according to records, with her next appearance in Chatham County court scheduled for Sept. 14.
