HOLLISTER, N.C. (WNCN) — A shooting at a convenience store in Halifax County left a man dead, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a shots fired at a convenience store in the 37000 block of Highway 561 near Hollister just after 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.
After being informed that a person had been shot, according to the sheriff’s office, deputies found 50-year-old Joel Lynch of Hollister suffering from a gunshot wound.
Lynch died of his injuries at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said there was a large group of ATV riders at the store when the shooting happened. Several people were interviewed about the incident.

As of Monday, no arrests have been announced in the shooting. CBS 17 has reached out to the sheriff’s office for any updates.
A GoFundMe has been created by Lynch’s family to help with funeral costs.
