GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Dozens of people were arrested following a street takeover Saturday night in Greenville County.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the takeover at the corner of Locust Hill Road and Fairview Road around 11:30 p.m.
Video posted by the sheriff’s office shows dozens of people standing in or near the street watching a car perform doughnuts in the intersection.
Deputies said 80 adults and multiple juveniles were arrested, 38 cars were impounded, and 10 guns were seized as a result.
Investigators said all were charged with aiding and abetting street takeover under the Roadway Safety and Protection Act.
7NEWS reached out to criminal defense attorney Josh Kendrick with Kendrick and Leonard Law Firm.

When asked about the aiding and abetting charge itself, he explained that it is “a relatively new statute. It was only enacted in May. Aiding and abetting, as a general matter, means you’ve done something to affirmatively help someone commit a crime.”
Kendrick said it was most likely relevant to the situation.
“Because the way the law was initially written, you would have also been able to arrest spectators,” Kendrick explained. “And they specifically changed that. So the aiding, abetting in this street takeover statute means that you have to have been actively doing something to help with the street takeover.”
He told 7NEWS the charge is relatively small.
“That’s a 30 day misdemeanor. I think it’s a $100 fine or somewhere in that neighborhood,” said Kendrick.
But others could be facing larger penalties. “You’re going to have other people who may be charged with participating on a bigger scale or actually doing some of the driving and things like that,” he added. “What I would consider a lot more significant punishment is up to a year in jail or three years in jail, depending on where they fall.”
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said its investigation is ongoing and more charges may be coming.
