RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Raleigh Police Department is encouraging residents to participate in this year’s National Night Out on Tuesday as communities across the city come together to strengthen relationships between neighbors and law enforcement.

Observed annually on the first Tuesday in August since 1984, National Night Out is designed to promote crime prevention, neighborhood engagement and stronger partnerships with local police.
As part of this year’s event, the Raleigh Police Department is asking residents to leave their porch lights on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. Police said the gesture symbolizes awareness and helps create a welcoming environment for neighbors to connect with one another.

Residents are also encouraged to spend time meeting their neighbors, sharing community concerns and discussing ways to help keep their neighborhoods safe.

The Raleigh Police Department has participated in National Night Out for more than 30 years, supporting neighborhood events and community-building efforts throughout the city.
