Raleigh is 8th best city for women, study finds

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Raleigh is the eighth best city in the nation for women, a study has found.

The study from WalletHub compared 15 indications of living standards for women in 182 cities.

Raleigh ranked as the eight best overall and the best for women in North Carolina with a score of 67.19, according to the study.

According to the study, Raleigh holds the top spot for women’s preventive healthcare while also ranking sixth for women’s economic and social well-being, 10th for share of women-owned businesses, 14th for median earnings for female workers (adjusted for cost of living), 32nd for unemployment rate for women, 42nd for women’s life expectancy at birth, 49th for share of women in poverty, 64th for women’s healthcare and safety, and 93rd for female uninsured rate.

The study gave Durham a score of 63.37, making it the 20th best city for women in the nation and the second best in North Carolina.

Charlotte ranked as the third best city for women in North Carolina and 25th overall with a score of 62.37, according to the study.

According to the study, the lowest ranked city for women in North Carolina was Fayetteville, which holds a score of 45.82 and ranked 138th overall.

The study ranked Columbia, Maryland as the best city for women with a score of 78.20. Jackson, Mississippi scored 24.17, giving it the lowest spot.
