Tuesday saw nothing but sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 80s, but it will likely be the coolest day for the next three days.
Highs will climb to 90° and stay around that starting Wednesday and last through Friday afternoon before the cold front Friday night.
We’ve already seen more record highs in 2026 than in any year, with 21 so far. We have a good chance of adding to that this week. The 90° forecast high on Wednesday would be the latest in the year we’ve hit 90 in recorded history in the Triangle.
A cold front moves through central North Carolina Friday evening, bringing a small chance for rain, but also temperature falling quickly into the 60s.
Also on our radar is the heat during the first couple of days of the NC State Fair. The hottest day on record during the state fair was 88 degrees, back in 2016. We could make a run at that as well.

Warmth aside, we have a very dry period setting up with only our Friday rain chance for the next 10 days. Only isolated showers are expected. So some spots might not see rain at least through the final week of the month.
