RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A record shattered on Wednesday in Raleigh, a high temperature of 89°; the first day of what we are calling ‘Hotober.’

Some families walking through Dorothea Dix Park said they have mixed feelings about high temperatures.
“It’s still like relatively moderate. We haven’t broken like 100, so we’re still able to get the kids out for walks and stuff like that but it is a little uncomfortable,” said Abby Pean, Raleigh resident.
While many people are enjoying this unexpected warm-up, others are concerned about their electric bills. They said they are ready to turn the air conditioners off and crack open a window, especially after one of the hottest summers on record.
“The AC is still on we got to keep it on because it’s too hot to turn off. My bill is much higher and I’m dealing with a lot of financial costs and strain from that, so hopefully this will get better and it’ll cool out soon,” said Sarah Babineau, a Cary resident.

Megan Slim agreed and said her electric bill is really hurting her wallet. She said it was higher than normal this summer and she is ready to enjoy the benefits of fall temperatures.

“It’s definitely worse now, a lot worse. I’ll have my AC set on 73 to 75, but the bill still rises, and it’s not a consistent number every month. I’m super ready to turn my AC off and have the heat gone,” said Slim.
Not everyone is upset about an extended summer. Some parents told CBS 17 that their kids are happy that splash pads are still open and they can be outside.
However, the 90° temperatures are not expected to last long. We are expecting some cooler days early next week.
