Repairs completed at 3 Wake County elementary schools before start of new year: District

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Three elementary schools in Wake County that were closed for repairs last month will be ready to welcome students on the first day of the new year, the district said.

In July, Wake County Public School System officials announced Creech Road, Davis Drive, and Durant Road elementary schools would undergo repairs after they were deemed unsafe. Certain walls and the connections between walls and other components did not align with approved construction plans.

Construction at Durant Road was completed by last Monday, Aug. 10, according to district officials.

This week, district officials announced construction had been completed at Creech Road and Davis Drive.

All three facilities will open to students and staff as scheduled for the 2026-27 school year, according to district officials.

“We are very pleased to be well positioned to cross the finish line and re-open each of these schools on or before our scheduled completion dates,” district officials said. “We thank the board, contractors, designers, inspection teams, district staff, school staff, families, and the community for your patience and flexibility as we work through these necessary repairs.”

Officials said the total cost of the repairs is expected to be $5.6 million.
