Sunny, comfortable weather will continue through the end of the week as the unsettled pattern that brought multiple rounds of showers, thunderstorms, and a few severe storms has finally moved out of the region.

In its wake, drier air has settled into central North Carolina, making for much more enjoyable conditions. Expect afternoon highs in the upper 80s with overnight lows dropping into the 60s, providing cool mornings and low humidity through Saturday.
Changes begin to arrive late in the weekend as a weak upper-level disturbance and an accompanying cold front move into the Southeast. Rain chances increase on Sunday with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and evening. The front is expected to stall across the region on Monday before gradually weakening through the middle of next week, keeping a daily chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.
At this point, it does not appear we’ll see a washout. Instead, expect the typical summertime pattern of scattered afternoon and evening pop-up storms, with many hours remaining dry. As always, any storm that develops could produce brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.
Temperatures will slowly climb through next week as humidity begins to increase once again. Highs should return to the lower and eventually middle 90s by the end of the week, signaling a return to more typical August heat. Until then, enjoy the sunshine, lower humidity, and temperatures running a few degrees below average while they last.
