KENLY, N.C. (WNCN) — The semi-truck driver charged in a crash two years ago on Interstate 95 in Wilson County that left five people dead pleaded guilty Friday, court records show.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 2020 Freightliner semi-truck carrying orange juice was traveling north on I-95 near Kenly just before 1:30 p.m. on July 24, 2024, when it failed to slow down and rear-ended a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The orange juice semi-truck continued traveling north after the initial collision and struck a 2017 Toyota Rav-4, a 2024 Kenworth semi-truck, and a 2014 International semi-truck before coming to a rest in the northbound lanes and catching fire, according to the NCSHP.
Troopers said the crash killed the two occupants of the Chevrolet Tahoe — 72-year-old William Carroll Tucker and and 66-year-old Elizabeth Sharon Tucker, both of Hephzibah, Georgia — and the three occupants of the Toyota Rav-4 — 68-year-old Edward Carroll Davis of Greenville, 69-year-old Martha Warren Davis of Greenville, and 80-year-old Linda Warren Whitehurst of Robersonville.
According to the NCSHP, all three semi-truck drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the orange juice semi-truck, 51-year-old Charles Christian Haskell of Las Vegas, Nevada, was arrested after being released from the hospital and charged with five counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Troopers said Haskell was driving 70 m.p.h. in a construction zone before striking the Chevrolet Tahoe.
On Friday, according to records, Haskell pleaded guilty in Wilson County court to the five counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Haskell was sentenced to 150 days in jail, with credit for two days, according to court records.
Records show Haskell was also cited for failure to reduce speed in the crash.
The failure to reduce speed charge was dismissed on Friday in exchange for Haskell’s guilty plea on the misdemeanor death by vehicle charges, according to court records.
