HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) — More than 20 new beds are being added to UNC Health Rex’s hospital in Holly Springs, officials said.

The expansion at the Holly Springs facility at 850 S Main St. is to address population increases in southwestern Wake County, according to UNC Health Rex.
According to UNC Health Rex, Holly Springs is the fastest growing town in Wake County by percentage. The town’s population last year was 48,000, a 35% increase since the hospital opened in 2020.
On Thursday morning, officials held a ribbon cutting to unveil the seventh floor of the Holly Springs hospital where 24 new beds will be added.

Officials said the Holly Springs hospital currently has 50 beds. The expansion will bring the total to 74.
“It will help expand capacity, allow for more admissions and reduce wait times in the fast-growing region,” UNC Health Rex officials said in a statement.
According to UNC Health Rex, the Holly Springs hospital saw 34,463 emergency department visits, performed 4,503 surgeries, and delivered 1,121 babies last year.
