PINEHURST, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman died in a Pinehurst house fire Sunday morning in the Jackson Hamlet area of the Moore County town, according to reports and officials.

The fire in a wood-frame single-story home was reported just before 5 a.m. along Arnette Street in southern Pinehurst, just off N.C. 5 near the Sandhills Bowling Center, according to a Pinehurst news release and the Sandhills Sentinel.
“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from the home,” Pinehurst officials said.
Two people managed to escape, the Sentinel reported, while a person at the scene told firefighters that a victim might be trapped inside.

“Crews encountered extreme heat and heavy fire conditions while working to bring the fire under control,” the news release said.

Later, a woman resident was found dead inside the home, the publication reported.
“The Village of Pinehurst extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, loved ones and the Jackson Hamlet community,” Pinehurst officials said.
The home was destroyed by the fire. Several fire agencies assisted in fighting the blaze, including those from Aberdeen, Eastwood, Fort Bragg, West End, and Seven Lakes.
“The cause remains under investigation,” officials said.
Moore County Public Safety is leading the fire investigation with assistance from the Pinehurst Fire Department.
