SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (WNCN) — Two men were injured in a shooting, attracting a “large crowd” nearby after a party in a Southern Pines neighborhood early Saturday morning, police said.

The incident was first reported as gunfire around 12:50 a.m. in the area of Rothney Avenue and Haines Court in a neighborhood off Murray Hill Road, near Brookside Park Apartments, according to a Southern Pines Police Department news release.
Officers responded to the shooting and found “a large crowd gathered near the location of the shooting, where a private party had been taking place,” police said.
“Investigators recovered multiple shell casings, which were collected and processed as evidence,” police said about the shooting scene.
The shooting victims were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in privately owned vehicles before police arrived, the news release said. The two men suffered injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, officers said.

Officers also went to the hospital and interviewed the victims.
“Investigators continue to work diligently to gather additional information and identify potential witnesses,” police said.
Officers said the shooting investigation is still underway.
“At this time, no arrests have been made, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community related to this incident,” the news release said.
