Triangle sees 5th day of record heat

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — For the fifth day in a row, people in the Triangle are experiencing record-high heat.

Thursday saw a record-tying high temperature of 96 degrees in the Triangle, which data shows ties the record set in 1941.

It is the fifth straight day of temperatures in the 90s for the Triangle. Sunday saw a high of 94, Monday saw a high of 96, Tuesday had a high of 97, and Wednesday had a high of 95, a truly sweltering stretch of numbers over the past several days.

The CBS 17 Storm Team is forecasting some relief from the heat as rain returns to the area, and with it comes a forecasted high in the 70s.

According to CBS 17 Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein, July is normally the hottest month of the year for NC with temperatures hovering around 91 to 92 degrees, but the numbers over the past five days have surpassed those.
