The statement from the sheriff comes as a second child was hit by a car less than 24 hours before the fatal collision in another part of Hoke County on Poole Road. That child is expected to recover, according to deputies.

“Prayers for the families affected by the traumatic accidents that occurred today, and for all of our public safety personnel who responded. It has been a very difficult day in Hoke County,” Sheriff Virgil said.
