The Tar Heels (53-13-1), ranked No. 5 overall in the country, will have to defeat the Oklahoma Sooners (42-22) Sunday to force a decisive winner-take-all contest in the 2026 Men’s College World Championship Final. First pitch for Game 2 is set for shortly after 2:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

The Sooners routed UNC Saturday, winning Game 1 by a score of 9-3. Both teams got on the board early, with the Tar Heels leading 3-2 after the first inning. Oklahoma then tied it in the top of the third inning, and then the wheels came off for the Diamond Heels, with the Sooners scoring four in the top of the fourth frame and one insurance run each in the sixth and ninth innings.

UNC ace Jason DeCaro was tagged for seven earned runs and seven hits — including two home runs — in just three and two-thirds innings of work, but struck out six along the way. Heralded relief pitcher Walker McDuffie also gave up four hits and an earned run in two and a third innings. Oklahoma managed a total of 14 hits off the Tar Heels’ pitching staff. Carolina batters, on the other hand, managed just half that against the Sooners and were held scoreless after the first inning.

If the Tar Heels win Sunday, they’ll force a rubber match Monday for the 2026 national title. If Oklahoma wins, they will be crowned national champions.
