RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — After playing a pivotal role in the Carolina Hurricanes’ Stanley Cup championship, veteran goaltender Frederik Andersen is headed to a new home.

Andersen has signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. The deal includes a $1 million base salary, with the opportunity to earn additional performance bonuses throughout the season.
The 36-year-old’s regular season was far from dominant. In 35 appearances, Andersen posted a 16-14-5 record with a .874 save percentage and a 3.05 goals-against average.

However, everything changed once the playoffs began.

Andersen elevated his game when it mattered most, becoming one of the driving forces behind Carolina’s championship run. He finished the postseason with a remarkable 13-2 record, a .910 save percentage, and a stellar 1.89 goals-against average, helping lead the Hurricanes through the Eastern Conference before capturing the Stanley Cup.
Now, after delivering one of the most memorable playoff performances of his career, Andersen begins a new chapter in Edmonton, where the Oilers hope his postseason experience can help fuel another championship pursuit.
