LELAND, N.C. (WNCN) — A bus from a Cumberland County high school crashed late Wednesday morning near Leland in Brunswick County near the North Carolina coast, according to school officials and Brunswick County authorities.

The crash was reported just after 11:30 a.m. at the U.S. 17 and U.S. 74 interchange near Leland, according to a town of Leland news release.
Images from the scene showed the bus on its roof.
According to Cumberland County Schools district officials, the bus contained Douglas Byrd High School students who were returning from an athletic event in Brunswick County.
“Thankfully, there do not appear to be any life-threatening injuries at this time,” Cumberland County School officials said.
There were 33 people on board the bus, including 26 students and seven adults, after a 7-on-7 football event at South Brunswick High School, according to the town of Leland.
Four people, including two students and two adults, were transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, a Leland news release said.

The remaining occupants were taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
A U.S. 17 northbound ramp to U.S 74 was closed, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Thankfully, there do not appear to be any life-threatening injuries at this time. Out of an abundance of caution, those involved in the accident are being evaluated by medical personnel, and the district is coordinating transportation for students to return home safely.
