Luck of the Tar Heel! Loyal fan wins two tickets to UNC game in Dublin, Ireland

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Football season in the Triangle is just one month away.

UNC’s first game is set in Dublin, Ireland, and loyal fans are already getting their tickets to watch the Tarheels take on the TCU Horned Frogs.

“You combine two really cool things together; it would be really cool to see,” UNC fan Tyler Gilbert said.

Over 2,000 fans entered their name in a contest to see the game in person for free.

“We want to win this trip to Ireland; it would be fun,” UNC fan Tim Costner said.

However, on Wednesday, only 20 finalists were chosen to win two tickets that include airfare and lodging. The trip is sponsored by University Place and the Chapel Hill Media Group.

“Great! Ecstatic,” Winner Jonny Adams said.

Adams and his wife are the two very lucky Tarheels.

“We live about two miles from here, and we can actually hear the football games from our backyard,” Adams said.

Meanwhile, here at home, fall camp is set to kick off Thursday, days after the UNC football General Manager, Michael Lombardi, was placed on administrative leave.

Fans say they are not worried that the conflict will have any impact on the season.

“Well, he is not coaching, so ya know it’s not going to affect the team I don’t think as much as everybody thinks it’s going to,” Costner said.

The game is on Aug 29.
