DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The Durham community is gearing up for a heartwarming tradition as the “Fill That Bus!” school supply drive returns this year, running from July 13 to Aug. 14.

This initiative, launched in 2001, aims to support all Durham Public Schools by connecting the community with local educational needs.
Operated by Crayons2Calculators (C2C), a program of the Durham Public School Foundation (DPSF), the drive encourages community involvement to restock essential school supplies for teachers and classrooms.
“Every year, we look to the community to help us restock our shelves,” said Eunice Sanders, C2C program manager. “The more we can raise during ‘Fill That Bus!’, the better we can serve all DPS teachers and classrooms year-round.”

Over the past year, C2C distributed more than $201,000 worth of supplies to almost 2,500 classrooms, reflecting the drive’s significant impact. The idea for “Fill That Bus!” was conceived by Michelle Stanback of the Durham Regional Association of Realtors (DRAR), who sought to create a meaningful connection between the organization and local schools.
As part of this year’s efforts, the public has various ways to participate, including hosting supply drives, shopping online wish lists and making financial contributions. Two Men and a Truck will assist with logistics during the event.
