Man charged with murder after woman found stabbed to death in Raleigh home, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Flock cameras were used to locate a Raleigh man in Pennsylvania after he became the suspect in a woman’s murder.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the investigation began Thursday afternoon when officers were asked to perform a welfare check on Sheremy Gwenette Dillard.

Dillard’s family requested a welfare check after not hearing from her, according to police. The family said she lived with her boyfriend, Rickey Harper, in the 2000 block of Whistling Straits Way. When officers arrived, they found Dillard dead.

Police said Dillard’s injuries were “consistent with those sustained in a stabbing,” but Harper was nowhere to be found.

Using evidence collected at the scene in tandem with data collected from Flock cameras, investigators identified Harper as the suspect. They presented their case to the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, and Harper was charged with first-degree murder.

A little more than a day later, police said Harper was arrested in Pennsylvania, just before 3 p.m. by the Plymouth Township Police Department.

At the time of publication, Harper is still being held in police custody in Pennsylvania.
