Pittsboro to end contract with Flock Safety for license plate reader

PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — The Town of Pittsboro will end its contract for a license plate reader, officials said Wednesday.

According to town officials, the Board of Commissioners discussed Pittsboro’s contract with the Flock Safety ALPR system during their meeting on May 11.

Following the discussion, according to town officials, the commissioners voted 4-1 to approve a motion terminating the contract.

The termination includes all amendments, renewals, extensions, and additional camera authorizations in the contract, according to town officials.

Officials said no funds in Pittsboro’s 2026-27 budget will be used towards continuing or renewing the license plate reader system.

According to town officials, town staff will inform Flock Safety to stop operation and use of the camera system and deactivate all its equipment.

The equipment is expected to be removed no later than July 1, according to town officials.
