Triangle sees record heat for 4th straight day

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — For the fourth straight day, temperatures in the Triangle have hit record highs.

The National Weather Service’s temperature gauge at Raleigh-Durham International Airport reached 96 degrees Wednesday, tying the record set in 2022. It comes a day after RDU recorded a temperatures of 97 degrees, breaking the record of 95 degrees for May 19 that was set in 1962.

According to CBS 17 Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein, July is normally the hottest month of the year for NC with temperatures hovering around 91 to 92 degrees, but the numbers over the past four days are surpassing those.

These temperatures mark the ninth time this year a record in the Triangle has been broken or tied.
