Cary official’s wife still missing in Grenada after search by island police, divers

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — The wife of a Cary town official was still missing Sunday on the island of Grenada after vanishing last week.

Elizabeth Waddell, 44, the wife of Cailen Waddell, who works as a Cary operations manager, was reported missing on Wednesday on the island in the Antilles archipelago, according to the Royal Grenada Police Force.

Police said Elizabeth was last seen on Grenada’s southwest coast at Grand Anse Beach, a two-mile stretch of white powdery sand with turquoise surf.

She traveled on vacation to the island with a close friend and was staying at the Hideaway Waterfront Apartments, just north of Grand Anse Beach, Grenada Broadcasting Network reported.

Cailen, who works in the Cary department of parks, recreation, and cultural resources, left North Carolina on Friday to help with the search, according to his social media account.

 In their notice on Thursday about Waddall’s disappearance, police said they were specifically reaching out to boat operators, fishermen, and southern coast residents.

Cailen said the Royal Grenada Police Force had been very helpful.

“The police have been wonderful,” he told Grenada Broadcasting Network in an interview. “They have been incredibly communicative and have done everything, it seems like they could be doing, to help find her.”

Cailen also spoke with the network about his wife.

“She could make friends with anyone. She often did,” the husband told Grenada Broadcasting Network on Friday. “She placed great value in her intuition about people and was always willing to help someone.”

At least one search was conducted before the weekend involving island police, divers and St. George’s University students, Grenada Broadcasting Network reported.

Grenada officials said anyone who has any information about Elizabeth Waddell’s location should contact South Saint George Police Station at 440-3921 or 911.
