PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN/WGHP) — Disney is sharing new images for a magical community it plans to build in Chatham County.

On Thursday, Disney revealed what the entrance to “Asteria” will look like. Disney said the entryway will be inspired by both the North Carolina landscape and its iconic movies, with quartz and a big, arched gateway.
The entryway will be built with dry-stack stonework using stone sourced from the site, including metavolcanic rock, quartz and rhyolite, according to Disney.
Asteria is set to include more than 4,000 residential units and a community gathering space. Developers say the first residents should be able to start moving in by the fall of 2028.

This week, Storyliving by Disney said the entry design is intended to “reflect the natural beauty and character of North Carolina’s Piedmont region,” Disney Parks Experience Karlee Dutton wrote in a Disney Parks Blog post. Walt Disney Imagineering provided creative guidance.
In April, updated plans for Asteria were released for the 1,500-acre Storyliving by Disney community that is planned in Pittsboro.

The project is expected to have a mix of single-family and multi-family homes, with some neighborhoods designated for adults 55 and older.
Also in April, Disney shared new details and renderings of the “Second Star Club,” a gathering space envisioned as the social centerpiece of the community. The club’s design is inspired by the celestial compass in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 1953 animated film “Peter Pan.”
At the center of the Second Star Club will be Aster Green, which the company describes as an “expansive gathering lawn made for pick-up soccer, family picnics, Disney movie nights, and happy run-ins with neighbors.”
Disney said the Studios will give members access to high-tech tools, such as laser cutters and fabric printers. Plans also include a wellness center, adult-only pool, family-friendly pool, a playground and tennis and pickleball courts.
