RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Wavy, wiggly, squiggly — anything but straight.
A stretch of South State Street in Raleigh drew a lot of attention from drivers and social media online this week.

The city of Raleigh recently painted new lane lines, and those lines weren’t quite straight.
Jordan Huggins, who goes by @AkaYoungBeefy online, shared a video on social media highlighting the odd paint job on South State Street. The video shows Huggins enthusiastically asking what’s going on with the road.
“They’ve been doing a lot of renovation on the road. I was just driving by one day, and then the lines were there, and I just couldn’t not notice how out of whack they were,” Huggins told CBS 17.
Instead of a straight line, the new striping snakes and meanders down about a mile of South State Street.
“I’m too much of a big mouth to not say anything. So I had to make a video about it,” Huggins said.
His video has gained thousands of views and reactions from people in the area.
“It was, it was just so funny. I was like, what was going on while they were painting the lines that they look like this?” he said.

The video and social media comments also got the attention of Raleigh city staff and council members. CBS 17 contacted a city spokesperson about the paint job.
Two days later, crews were out stripping the paint and placing new markings to give the striping another try. The city didn’t say why the lines turned out a little squiggly the first time around.
“Kudos to the city of Raleigh. It’s like a week turnaround, I think. I made the video and then they responded on Instagram,” Huggins said. “But then they’re out here fixing it. It’s like insane. It’s so hilarious.”
Huggins said through responses to his social media video, he learned a lot about the skill it takes to do road work, such as striping lanes, and the shortage of workers to do it. He hopes no one got in trouble for the striping mishap.

The new lines are expected to be complete by the end of the week.
“It’s cool to have an impact like this, even if it started with me shaming the city a little bit,” Huggins said.
