According to the SBI, the agency was contacted on July 16 by the Wrightsville Beach police chief and the New Hanover County district attorney to look into the “possible misuse” of the department’s automatic license plate reader system “by an employee.”

As a result of the findings of the SBI’s investigation, a New Hanover grand jury indicted Tonya Blake on one count of misuse of the ALPR system. The SBI said she was arrested Wednesday morning and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Oct. 12.
