RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A heat advisory is in effect for parts of central North Carolina on Friday as dangerous heat and humidity combine to produce heat index values of 107° or higher in some locations.

Afternoon temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s, but it will feel significantly hotter once humidity is factored in. The combination of heat and moisture will make it difficult for the body to cool efficiently, creating an increased risk for heat-related illness.
If you are sensitive to the heat, plan to spend an extended amount of time outdoors or work outside, take precautions throughout the day. Drink plenty of water before and during outdoor activities, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the afternoon when possible. Never leave children, pets, or anyone else unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a short time.
