HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) — Crews responded after a worker was injured while in a 60-foot-deep space at a Holly Springs construction site late Wednesday morning, officials said.

The incident, which was categorized as a confined space rescue, happened around 10:40 a.m. at Trinity Creek Drive at Rough Leaf Lane.
The rescue happened after a worker was already 60 feet down when a construction drill fell into the opening and injured the worker. The access appeared to be from an elevated metal platform into an opening surrounded by steel at a site west of Holly Springs near Holly Springs New Hill Road.
The area near Braxton Pond is also near FugiFilm Biotechnologies and just beyond the entrances to several neighborhoods.

Holly Springs officials said an expansion project is underway for the Rough Leaf Lane pump station that transfers wastewater to the town’s treatment plant.

Holly Springs Fire Department Chief Leroy Smith said a group of contractors was working at the site when the incident happened.
Smith said the firm already had a hoist set up when the injury happened.
An ambulance responded to the scene, but there’s no word about the extent of injuries.
