‘Prolonged’ Raleigh power outage causes Leesville Road schools early dismissal: District

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — All three Leesville Road campus schools in Raleigh have dismissed early Wednesday due to a “prolonged” power outage, district officials said.

The high school, middle school, and elementary school, all located in the 8400 block of Pride Way, were each dismissed at 11:15 a.m., according to Wake County Public School System officials.

According to district officials, school buses are providing transportation for students. High school students will be picked up first, followed by middle school students, and finally elementary school students.

District officials said families will also be able to pick up their students from the campus.

Staff will remain at the campus with students until everyone is given a ride home, according to district officials.

According to district officials, all afterschool activities have been canceled.

As of late Wednesday morning, according to district officials, phone and internet services are down at the campus.

“We appreciate your patience as we work through this situation,” district officials said in a statement. “Thank you for your continued support.”

According to Duke Energy, the outage was caused by an equipment failure on an underground power line in the area.

Power has since been restored, according to Duke Energy.
