Greenville, NC (WNCN) — The Johnston County Little League team captured the title in the Little League Softball World Series with a 2-0 win over Kentucky Sunday afternoon in Greenville, giving the Tar Heel State its second championship in three years in the tournament.

Anna-Lynn Clark threw a complete game shutout, and didn’t allow a runner past second base in the final five innings of the contest. Belle Cox gave Johnston County a 1-0 lead with a second inning base hit to score Scarlett Cerda. The second run scored because of a Kentucky error, and that was more than enough for Clark to shut the door and deliver the championship for Johnston County. Clark struck out six and allowed just three hits.

North Carolina has won four championships since the Little League Softball World Series began in 1974. Only Texas, Florida and California have captured more titles in the tournament’s history.
