Man hospitalized after fight leads to shooting in southeast Raleigh, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was hospitalized after a fight escalated into a shooting in Raleigh early Thursday morning, police said.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded around 12:40 a.m. to the area of Garner Road and McMakin Street after receiving a report of a shooting.

Police said the victim was shot twice — once in the hand and once in the lower back. He was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

According to investigators, the victim told officers he and a friend were walking down the street when they encountered someone they had an issue with. A fight broke out before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim, police said.

Investigators said the victim has not been fully cooperative with the investigation, leaving officers without a detailed suspect description. No arrests have been made.
