ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A woman was charged after hot coffee was thrown on an employee at a Speedway convenience store Thursday morning, according to Elizabeth City Police.

Officials say units responded just after 9:30 a.m. to the Speedway in the 1100 block of North Road Street following a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, a female employee was found with burns on her arm and chest that were consistent with exposure to hot liquid, police said. She was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for treatment.
Police said that an investigation revealed that the employee was assaulted when a customer threw a cup of hot coffee on her during a dispute at the checkout counter.

A woman, 55-year-old Chandra Bianca Lamb, was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting injury, police said.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for August 31.
