Summer warmth is making a comeback as sunshine returns across central North Carolina. Highs on Monday will climb to around 90°, with most of the day staying dry under a mix of sun and a few afternoon clouds. An isolated shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out late in the day, but rain coverage will remain limited, and most communities won’t see any rainfall.

Tuesday will be the week’s most active weather day as a cold front sweeps across the region. The Storm Prediction Center has placed central North Carolina under a Level 2 of 5 Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms. A few showers are possible Tuesday morning, but the greatest potential for strong to severe storms will come later in the day as the cold front approaches.
As the atmosphere becomes increasingly warm and humid ahead of the front, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and evening. The primary threat will be damaging straight-line wind gusts, although locally heavy rainfall and frequent lightning are also likely. An isolated tornado or a few instances of large hail cannot be completely ruled out, but those threats remain relatively low. The front is expected to move through Tuesday night, ending the storm threat by early Wednesday.
Wednesday through Friday will feature lower humidity, plenty of sunshine, and seasonable temperatures, with afternoon highs in the upper 80s to around 90°. It will be another break from the heat and humidity before the next chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms arrives over the weekend.

MONDAY will be mostly clear with a few scattered showers and storms in the area. The high will be 88. Winds will be light and variable.

OVERNIGHT will be partly cloudy and warmer. The low will be 72. Winds will be light out of the south at 5 miles per hour.
TUESDAY will be partly cloudy with a round of gusty showers and storms in the afternoon and evening. The high will be 93. Winds will be out of the southwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
