WILSON’S MILLS, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman with trauma injuries was trapped in a crashed SUV in Johnston County before Wilson’s Mills fire crews rescued her late Friday night, officials said.

The single-vehicle crash was reported just after 10:10 p.m. along U.S. 70 Business near Barbour Road, about a mile southwest of Interstate 42/U.S. 70 and central Wilson’s Mills, according to a Wilson’s Mills Fire & Rescue Department news release.
The vehicle, which appeared in photos as a Buick Encore, went off U.S. 70 Business near Swift Creek Road, stopping just outside the parking lot of a small business.
During the wreck, the SUV smashed into a utility pole, taking down power lines and knocking out electricity to hundreds in the area, officials said.

Fire and rescue crews arrived to find a woman who was “trapped inside by the doors being jammed,” the news release said.
Rescue crews managed to extract the woman, who had suffered “obvious multiple fractures from chest to lower extremities,” Wilson’s Mills Fire & Rescue Chief Jason Moore said in the release.

The 52-year-old woman told first responders that she might have “passed out” before the crash and that she did not remember the wreck, Moore said.
The woman was taken as a trauma patient by Johnston County EMS to WakeMed in Raleigh. Moore said there were no other injuries in the crash.
With power lines down on each side of the road, electricity was out in the Johnston Regional Airport area near U.S. 70 Business and Swift Creek Road, fire officials said.

Duke Energy responded and had all power restored by 5 a.m. Saturday, with electricity on sooner in some areas.
Response to the crash included engine 3, engine 2, along with a battalion chief and the assistant fire chief of Wilson’s Mills Fire Department. Johnston County EMS also responded.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
